Need a Clean Home for Your Sanity? Start Here.

  1. Declutter. Don’t buy one organization bin. Claim back you space.

  2. Deep Clean: Section by section.

  3. Maintain: Schedule, habit, groove. Whatever you want to call it - get into it. And when you fall off, hop back on.

If keeping your home clean feels like an endless battle, you're not alone. Between work, family, and life’s daily chaos, it’s easy for dust, clutter, and grime to take over. But here’s the good news—you don’t need to spend hours scrubbing or hire an expensive cleaning service to maintain a spotless home.

The key? A simple, streamlined system that works for you, not against you.

  1. Decluttering: Clear the Chaos

You can’t have a clean space when there’s clutter. Things create clutter, so to have less clutter, you need fewer things. Work with the space you have—don’t try to force your space to cooperate with the amount of stuff you own because you will lose every time.

Where to Start:

  • Get inspired! Listen to the Mel Robbins Podcast with guest Dana K White.

  • Start Small. This is especially helpful if you are a sentimental hoarder. Begin with a non-sentimental drawer or medicine cabinet. Then work your way up to a closet and eventually an entire room.

  • Recognize shopping habits. If you’re a purger (like me), recognize that when shopping or seeing Instagram ads, you most likely don’t need it—you’ll purge it later anyway!

  • Forget the price tag: It doesn’t matter how much you paid for something - if it simply taking up space, it’s clutter.

Tips for Success:

  • You’ve probably heard of asking yourself: “Does this (item) bring me joy?” I challenge you to ask yourself: “Do I have a space for this?

    • If there’s no space for it - get rid of it.

  • Use an opaque bag or box when decluttering- helps you not question your decisions and stick to your guns.

  • Do not buy a organization bin until you know exactly what that space needs - more bins = more clutter.

2. Deep Cleaning: Reset Your Home

You need a clean slate before you can maintain a clean home. Take a look at your space—however it looks right now is the maintenance level you can achieve without a deep clean.

How to Deep Clean Efficiently:

  1. Understand the Dirt – Be observant and intentional before you start cleaning. Are you dealing with heavy dust, sticky floors, hard water stains, burnt-on food, or toddler wall art? Take inventory (literally make a list or use one of mine) to be prepared with the right tools and knowledge.

  2. Have the Right Tools – Supplies matter. Stock up on the right cleaning products (all-purpose spray, rags, etc.), equipment (scrapers, mops, vacuum), and most importantly—the knowledge of how to actually get it clean.

  3. Create the Time – Set aside dedicated time to finish each area in one go. Start small (a drawer) and work your way up to larger spaces so you get a sense of how much time each area takes.

Pro Tip: Don’t fall into the deep-cleaning burnout cycle! Start with one area, deep clean it, and get into a maintenance routine before moving on to the next space.

3. Maintenance Cleaning: Keep It Clean with Less Effort

Create a schedule that will actually keep your deep cleaning efforts worth it. If you don't have a cleaning schedule now, you may be surprised at how often you need to clean to keep an area well maintained and avoid deep cleans more often. There are lots of guides and resources out there for cleaning routines. I'll provide a link to mine, but find a routine that works for you and adjust it as you learn more about your space. Once you’ve decluttered and deep cleaned, maintenance cleaning becomes so much easier. Here’s how to stay on top of it:

  • The 10-Minute Rule – Set a timer for 10 minutes daily to tidy up one small area. Small daily efforts prevent overwhelming messes.

  • Daily & Weekly Routines – Create simple, realistic cleaning habits that fit into your schedule. (Psst… I’ve got digital guides to help!)

  • Use the Right Tools – A great vacuum, microfiber cloths, and effective multi-purpose cleaners can cut your work in half.
